They generally have a very high quality operation, particularly their fresh cut meats. Their produce is as good as the best supermarket. I have never had any issue with their service or the quality of their offerings. They are probably 15% more expensive than a full-service supermarket. On the other hand they are terribly convenient if you live in South Lakeview. However I no longer shop there because recently I was purchasing some steaks for the first barbecue of the season when I asked the butcher what part of the animal the steaks I was holding in my hand came from. I was puzzled because one was a strip loin the others were clearly ribeye, although they were both labeled as strip loins. Turns out he put the wrong sticker on the ribeyes, asked to see the two in my hand, slapped new price stickers on that were $4 more per kilo, and handed them back to me expecting me to buy them. It was an honest mistake and they can charge what they want, but to reprice something in front of a customer and then expect them to tolerate that level of greed was beyond the pale. I'm giving them a "good" rating. It would have been "very good" but for that butcher's greedy attitude towards me. Regardless of their high quality operation I go elsewhere now. It was a cheap shot at a regular customer and I am pleased to say that they will not be getting my custom any longer. They blew years of goodwill in one shot, and there is an even better butcher at 13th and Elphinstone... with a Safeway nearby, so there.
